The Light Within These Walls

Sangham Chapagain (Alumni/Admin and Finance Officer)

Born into hardship, I lived with my mother in a quiet corner of life where each day was a struggle and hope often felt distant. Though jobless, she gave me all the love and care she could—but life had offered us very little. Then came the turning point. On 12 June 2000, I was admitted to Bright Horizon Children’s Home School—a place that did far more than provide an education. It opened the door to a new world. Within its walls, I found not only books and lessons, but also friends who became family, mentors who believed in me, and a nurturing environment filled with care and opportunity. Bright Horizon became my home. It shaped my values, confidence, and purpose. Today, I walk those same halls not as a student, but as the Admin and Finance Officer—grateful to serve the institution that transformed my life.

My deepest gratitude goes to Ms. Marlies Kornfeld, whose vision and compassion made my journey possible; to Mr. Ang Tsering Lama, whose recommendation opened the door for my admission; and to my sponsor, my “Godfather,” Prof. Christoph Schaeublin, whose faith and kindness became a guiding light throughout my path. Though we were miles apart, his presence was always near—ensuring I never walked alone. I remain thankful to all the board members from Nepal, Switzerland, and Germany who continue this noble mission with love and dedication. Without them, the life I live today would never have been imaginable. If anyone were to ask where true light can be felt in a child’s life, I would say without hesitation—it is here, within the walls of this school. For twenty-five years, Bright Horizon Children’s Home has been a beacon of hope, transforming countless lives and nurturing dreams that once seemed impossible. May this light continue to shine—guiding generations of children toward a brighter horizon.

From Student to Staff: A Journey of Gratitude and Growth

Ramila Gurung (4th batch, Adm. no.: 86) Kathmandu

Hello! I am Ramila Gurung, I joined Bright Horizon Children’s Home School in year 2000, a moment that marked the beginning of a very special chapter of my life. I was just a child then curious, shy and full of dreams. Walking in the school for the first time, I remember being nervous and excited at the same time. The colorful classrooms and friends, and the kind faces of the teachers and staff quickly made me feel at home.

Life at BHCH was more than just academics. It was a place where I learned how to grow not just in knowledge but in kindness, responsibility, and confidence. The school was not only a place to study it became my second home. We had danced, played games, organized numerous programs and been together to celebrate every festivals and all achievements. I especially loved library time. BHCH isn’t only school but also a home that taught us moral values. The time after SEE (Secondary Education Examination) was filled with both challenges and opportunities. I faced the pressure of choosing right path whether to continue further studies, take training or start working. My first job was completely new experience. It was not easy. At first adjusting to a professional environment, learning new skills where I realized that life outside school required disciplines, confidence and the ability to keep learning every day. Today, I am proud to say that I am working as a school secretary at BHCHS. Being part of the team that nurtures and supports the needy once is both humble and fulfilling.  Working here allows me to be a role model and to show them that with hard work and dedication they can come back to contribute to their community. From being student to becoming a staff of BHCHS my heart remains full of gratitude, love and hope. At last, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to those who made this journey possible and special thanks for Marlies miss, my sponsors and Ambica Shrestha mam who brought me in this school. I would also like to thank all those who have believed in me and supported directly and indirectly in this journey and being a source of strength and inspiration. I am humble to everyone

Rising Beyond Challenges: Courage, Care, and Lifelong Learning

Indramaya Tourangi (7th batch, Adm. no.:154) Dhading

There are 6 members in my family – Father, Mother and 3 brothers. My father passed away on 12 Falgun 2058 BS when I was 4 years old. My mother worked as a home maker. Now, I have a new father who loves me as my real father. Our family was a poor family. At that time, we could afford only 2 times of meals in a day. Our house was made of roof with straw and wall of stone. Now, the roof is made of metal sheet. We were scarce of food for six months. We used to eat corn flour as meal and we had to wait till Dashain to buy new clothes and eat rice meals. Now we can afford as our will. BHCH has had a positive impact in my life in shaping me academically, personally and socially. In BHCH, I received a high-quality education. Beyond academics, it emphasized practical life skills. I learned cooking, sewing, dancing, knitting and other crafts which promote self-reliance and creativity. BHCH created a strong sense of community and belonging like supportive environment, caring teachers, caretakers like mother and father which make the school feel like a second home. I am proud to say I am here today because of BHCH and sponsors. Their guidance and education gave me the foundation to succeed in life. Without their support, I would not be where I am today. At present, I am working as a nurse in a hospital in Chitwan, providing care and medical treatment to patients and working with team of doctors and nurses.

After completing my studies, I passed my S.E.E in 2011. I feel very fortunate to have spent my childhood at Bright Horizon Children’s Home School.
